Clinical case description:

A young adult presented with congenitally missing lateral incisors with a considerable sized ridge defect. The patient had completed orthodontic treatment and was wearing a failing Maryland bridge. Following a clinical and CBCT analysis, patient was treatment planned for placement of 2 narrow body implants with simultaneous GBR to cover the exposed threads and contour augmentation using autogenous bone chips, Geistlich Bio-Oss® and Geistlich Bio-Gide® membrane. Papilla sparing incisions were used bilaterally for elevation of a trapezoidal flap with beveled incisions and the implants were placed. Autogenous bone was collected around the osteotomy sites and mixed with Geistlich Bio-Oss® small cancellous bone particles and the bone graft was placed over the implants and the area was over-augmented. The bone graft was covered with 2 pieces of Geistlich Bio-Gide® membrane using a double layered Buser technique for cross-stabilization. This procedure was repeated at both surgical sites and the wound was closed with 5-0 poly-amide sutures. After 3 months, implants were exposed and provisional restorations were made for sculpting and contouring of soft tissues. After an additional 3 months, zirconia restorations were fabricated and cemented over the abutments. The patient was very pleased with the outcome. The clinician was pleased with the choice of the biomaterials used in this treatment that has consistently provided successful results.
